Update from Les Ettes national Teamrider Vanessa Waldenhofer

Last week I had a nice scorpion bail on the downrail at the Dachstein Superpark… I felt so unlucky on the rail that my ellbow got hurt.. you can check out the pics how ugly it looked. Actually after the first fall it was not that swollen as it was when I kept riding with the injured ellbogen and suddenly just touched the snow a bit with the ellbow again. Damn, now I realized that it really got hurt somehow, specially when all my riding buddys couldn’t look my “mutant arm”, how they called it and told me to go to the hospital as fast as possible. Ok, I went there, and they told me that it’s not too bad, but I should try not to move the ellbow for one week, BUT my problem was that I had a shooting with blue tomato on the next day. I was really pissed about it!! Suddenly over the night the swollen ellbow got a lot better and I went to another doctor in the morning. He told me to put a kind of cast on the ellbow and to use ellbow pads. With that protection I could go ride my snowboard he told me, well I was not sure if he knew what and how I am “riding” cause it’s a bit of a difference to ride the slope or the superpark at Dachstein. ;) I was so happy! It was actually the first nice bluebird day after more than 1,5 weeks and I really wanted to go ride so badly!! So I went up and had a pretty cool day, I took the riding easy, so that nothing could happen to the ellbow again… well.. check the pics, it’s so much fun on Dachstein! More pics to follow soon!!

GARDENING WITH NATASZA ZUREK

Here are the latest news from Natasza:

It's totally sunny here in Whistler and very warm.  I just went surfing in Tofino on Vancouver Island with Steven for a week and although the waves were small it was a blast.  It was great to paddle out into the waves for the first time after the winter.  Of course the water is still very cold so I was wearing a 5/4 wetsuit with hood and booties but that did not deter me.  Marie-France Roy just bought a small place out there and she let us crash.  She has an organic garden so it's pretty much paradise.  For me, for the rest of the summer, I will try to make more trips out to Tofino to surf, and stay at home to do mountain biking and learning about gardening from my dad.

I've been getting into learning about and eating more raw food lately.  You would be amazed at how many different and interesting dishes one can make at home.  It's sooo delicious and very good for you!  It's like learning an entirely new way to cook.  Now in the summer this is very easy to do because of all the fresh produce that's available.  Of course, I still love bread and cheese and will never give it up for good, but being conscious to add more fresh food into the diet is beneficial for long term health.

She sees things in a different way. She is modest and sweet.

She has a special relationship with the ocean and she seems to have fallen for a special boys' scent in South Africa... 

What scent reminds you of your youth? 

It's the smell of salty air, dunes and the sand that reminds me of my youth. I spent a lot of time in Denmark and at the oceanside. I don't know why, but the smell of the ocean up there is so intense and so wonderful that to me it's not comparable to any other place in the world. 

Who always smells good?

1. It's my VW van named ”OZcar”. It always smells good. For 5 years he has fulfilled my needs for freedom. The trips to the ocean: the mixture of coconut surfwax, my wetsuit and the coffee. That's the smell of holiday and freedom.

2. The wonderful guy I met in South Africa, who had this scent I fell in love with. I haven't seen him since. Since he lives in the Netherlands we just skype, but his scent is missing. I can remember it perfectly but I can't wait another week until we meet again.

What is the best smelling place you’ve ever travelled to?

It's Hermanus in South Africa on the whale path. If you go there and walk the whale path your nose will run like a rollercoaster. At every corner there is a new scent of thyme, flowers, honey, saltwater, dunes. This time we didn't see the whales. But I think that when they are around you can even smell the whales:)

What is the best smelling restaurant/kitchen in the world?

It's the kitchen restaurant in my VW van. Everything we cook inside this car tastes and smells good because it taste like freedom:)

What is the best smelling recipe you can cook?

It's spinache goat cheese quiche:)

What do you listen to to relax?

I listen to the silence:)Or to some music like Neil Halstead (Singer/Songwriter founder of Mojave).

What is your favorite smell?

Summer mornings, after rainy nights. Whose favorite smell isn’t it?

Who always smells good?

This chick called Café Latte, she lives in this awesome coffee shop in Punavuori Helsinki, called Kaffe Centralen. 

What is the best smelling place you’ve ever traveled to?

That would be Bluche / Switzerland. My girl lives there.

What is the best smelling recipe you can cook?

Swedish meatballs. You get them from IKEA. 15 min drive to IKEA, 4 € a bag of balls, 10 min making of and voila!

What the simplest thing you have never learned to do?

To wake up in the morning. Have not learned that yet though.

Do you have any addictions?

Yes, work. That’s bad.

Your favorite daydream?

I don’t sleep during the days. Sorry. And I don’t dream that much. I focus.

What do you hope to live to see?

Flying cars and cure for cancer

Les Ettes surfer Anne-Cecile Le Tallec is back home...

After a long long time on the road les ettes surfer girl Anne-Cecile is back home in lovely France. She has spend her winter surfing in Australia and from there travelled to Tahiti and Portugal competing in nummerous WQS surf events. Currently Anne-Cecile is ranked 46th in the official world ranking and she is super motivated to climb higher and higher in the near futur. Watch out for her!

During the summer month you will find her surfing the famous breaks around Hossegor where she will be training and working as a surf teacher. We made her answer some questions for this blog before the next nice swell arrives and she is paddling out into the ocean again.

Christel's Baby Shower @ Les Ettes office

Wednesday afternoon the 29th of April we threw a baby party for our dear les ettes friend and fabulous makeup artist Christel Thoresen. She and her wonderful husband & pro snowboarder Christoph Thoresen (formerly Weber) are expecting their first child at any day soon from now on. Place to be was meant to be the beautiful terrace of the les ettes office building which is usually famous for its perfect sun exposure - a nice skin tan and wellness factor 10 always included. Unfortunately we weren't that lucky with the weather that day so that the party had to be removed inside. But that couldn't prevent us from having a solid chat and even more good laughter over coffee, cake and... champagne. Everything else you can imagine, I guess... and for some guests the party continued downtown in Innsbruck.

MBM session Austria

I love it when I get to go back to Europe and shoot with Euro snowboarders, even more when I get to travel with my good friend Vanessa Andrieux. I showed up in Bad Gastein Austria for the MBM session (Snowboarder Monster Backside Magazine, German magazine). The concept of the week is that about 10+ photographers show up with some riders and each crew tries to get better photos then the others, on the same days and on the same mountain. My team was composed by Gully, fellow shredder from Iceland and myself with Vanessa as team captain. We were all staying in the same huge 19^th century hotel which allowed all of us to hang after the shred, it was super fun and felt like a big summer camp! Bad Gastein is a old times luxurious natural hot spring resort with an impressive waterfall right in the center of town. I was waiting the whole time to cross Empress Sissi in the streets, or hearing Schubert playing piano.

The snow conditions were really bad when we got there! The slopes were covered with mud, ice and rocks.. and there was absolutely no snow left around, and it started raining! But we got so lucky as the rain transformed into snow! And it dumped just enough to cover most of the off pistes and all the logs and it turned out to be sick!!

After the rad Elan-Chicas shoot in Italy beginning of March I went to Salt Lake City to film for STANCE. You can watch our teaser on

Spring time conditions and slush is what we found in the back country. We built this huge step up kicker for two days. It was a 45 min hike to get there every day. On the third day we tried our best to hit the jump with as much speed as we could, but it didn't work. The compression just through us weird on to the deck and sometimes we even knockled. Three days of really hard work for nothing but beat ups - but we were still laughing about it.

From there I went to Selkirk Wilderness with the Helly Hansen Team. This is a cat boarding operation in interior BC. An amazing place! We got some freshies during the week and had a lot of fun riding through the trees and pillows followed by amazing dinners and food in the cat. I am not sure if we burned all that calories during the week. Our new HH team member JP Solberg had bought some fireworks on the way. They helped us to do some 007 spion stuff and lighting up some dead trees.

After this highlight I went to June Mt. to attend Ms Superpark by Snowboarder Magazine and to hang out with my lovely Euro girls Conny, Julia, Diana, Sarka, Silka and Cecilia. The Chicken Jam was one day delayed so I spontaneously decided to take part too. It was a fun course and I was happy with my riding. For Ms Superpark we had a fun set up. I liked the hip and the quarter the most. And we had a rad party at Lakanuki too. Free drinks and fun dancin!

Next stop was Salt Lake City again. I had three sunny days of filming with Raewyn Reid. Unfortunately the powder there got pretty baked. But we still did a lot of stuff: One day we built a sick kicker and hit some pillows and drops. Another day we had a hip and a little back flip kicker. That day it went from ice crust to heavy summer slush during the day. But it was fun and productive so we were happy.

Les Ettes Teamriders Jenny Jones and rookie Gemma Marshall took apart the famous British Championships in Laax, 28th March - 4th April.

Young Gemma took 1st place in the junior category of the Trespass Snowboardercross, 3rd place in Halfpipe and last but not least 4rth in the junior Slopestyle - Great job Gemma!



Jenny, the British snowboard wunderkind, dominated the woman's slope style with a 360 combo to fs540 Jones-style on the big kicker line.

We would like to send you big HELLO from Spindleruv Mlyn where we enjoyed the Burton Spindl Spring Sessions (2.-5., April 2009). It was the best spring shredding ever. Great park, millions of friends and sunny weather made us fancy crazy so that we could not leave the area before the sun went down. The weather was so friendly that we had to rename the event on: "Spindl SUMMER Seessions".

Oakley Girls Session April 2nd - 5th in Ruka/Finland

Last weekend Les Ettes was happy to support the Okley Girls Session way up North in Finland near the Arctic circle. Around 60 girls had shown up to enjoy some fun days in the great ski area of Ruka.

The concept of the event was great! There was a varied program for all the participants consisting of different coaching sessions in park and pipe and several funny team competitions like for example a dress-up race.

After riding the ladies were entertained with game nights, a flee market and a freaky 90s party. Guys were welcome at every time! Park and Pipe stayed open for everyone most of the time and the best Drag Queen outfit was rewarded with a new pair of Okley goggles.

Highlight of the weekend was definitely the TTR 3 star woman's slope style in the perfectly shaped snow park of Ruka. The girls showed some amazing snowboarding. In the end it was Finnish rookie Enni Rukajärvi who took home the victory and 1000 Dollar prize money. Watch out for Enni in the future. Her smooth style literally took my breath away. In second came Heidi Paumola (FIN). Third on the podium was Les Ettes team rider Saana Pehkonen (FIN) followed by Agnieszka Rusin (POL) in fourth - each of the ladies being a class of her own.

Hey everyone,

I jumped in the plane with no idea what to expect from the snow condition in Japan this year, where I was going exactly and whom with.. all I knew was that it was dumping more then ever in Europe and that I was truly looking forward to eating veggie tempura!!

The japanese confusion begun as soon as I put my foot on the ground, I found my friend Matthieu Georges and as advised by the information counter we jumped on the bus to the other terminal as soon as we found the right bus stop (that would be after running 5 times back and forth through the whole bus terminal). Arriving at the other terminal the information counter sends us back to the first terminal. Once there again and at the checking counter, the very shy, very cute, very kind, very quiet, very Japanese hostess tells us that snowboard bags are forbidden on that plane and that we had to go to the other airport on the other side of Tokyo about an hour away and catch a bigger plane to Sapporo...

On a beautiful spring day Conny Bleicher & Julia Baumgartner take 1st and 2nd place at the Austrian Masters HP Event 2009. 3rd place goes to Julias sister Tanja Baumgartner, who is a former K2 Snowboard Pro herself.
